Israel Calls for Removal of UN Chief from IAEA, Threatens Military Action
Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz has called for Mohammad ElBaradei to be fired from his post just before the IAEA’s new report on Iran is to be published. Mofaz declared that ElBaradei’s policies “endanger world peace.”
So far, the IAEA has found no evidence of an Iranian nuclear weapons program. Iran is a signatory of the NPT and its nuclear power plants are all open to inspectors. Israel is part of 4 out of 189 countries who are not signatories of the NPT (other three are Pakistan, North Korea and India).
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak threatened Iran with military action to stop Iran’s nuclear program.
