US Considers “Terrorist” Label for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps
The Washington Times reports on the latest move escalating tensions between the US and Iran. As the article states, the Revolutionary Guard would be the first national military branch included in the list of non-state entities officially considered “terrorists” by the US government.
According to the article:
The corps also plays a key role in Iran’s military industries, including the attempted acquisition of nuclear weapons and surface-to-surface missiles, according to Anthony H. Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Iran strongly denies making any attempt to acquire nuclear weapons and maintains that its nuclear program is exclusively for civilian use. UN inspectors have found no evidence of an Iranian nuclear weapons program.
